Skriouklaustur

Skriouklaustur (Skriduklaustur, Egilsstadir) – located in the northeastern corner of Iceland, this site consists of ruins of a fully-excavated 16th century monastery (from the Augustine monastic order). Back in the late 1930s, famed writer Gunnar Gunnarsson once lived here (and was donated to the government in 1948). Nowadays, this site acts as a museum and cultural center. Admission: ISK 1,000 (adult), ISK 750 (students), ISK 500 (seniors / disabled), free for children under 16 years. Hours: 10 am – 6 pm (daily)(May – September), 12 pm – 5 pm (October – April).
